TRUSSVILLE – According to Hewitt-Trussville senior running back Jarrion Street’s Twitter page, he has been awarded Class 7A’s Offensive Player of the Year.
Street finished his senior year with 17 touchdowns and 1,557 all-purpose yards. He went for 100 or more rushing yards in eight games to amass 1,400 yards on 229 carries (6.1 yards per carry). The Class of 2016 prospect is verbally committed to play for Ole Miss.
Street was presented as the winner on Wednesday at the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s annual Player of the Year Awards luncheon at the Alabama Activity Center. The event was presented by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association.
Clay-Chalkville senior quarterback Ty Pigrome was named the runner up for 2015’s Mr. Football award. He finished nine points behind Spanish Fort’s Tyler Johnston, who led the Toros to a Class 6A state championship game win over Pigrome and Clay-Chalkville.
Johnston, a 6-foot-2 quarterback, is currently committed to play for UAB. He finished his prep career with a 35-0 record. Pigrome finished his career with the Cougars 29-1.
Clay-Chalkville senior wide receiver T.J. Simmons placed fourth in the Mr. Football voting. He is scheduled to enroll early at Alabama.
