BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham CrossPlex hosted the Icebreaker indoor Invitational on Saturday and Hewitt-Trussville came away as the runner up behind Opelika in boys competition.
The Huskies finished with 51 total team points to top No. 3 Hoover’s 46 and No. 4 Vestavia Hills’ 44.
In girls action, Hewitt-Trussville finished 19th. Hoover dominated the girls track with 88 team points, 32 points better than No. 2 James Clemens.
Junior Noah Igbinoghene led the boys with a first and second-place finish. He took gold in the triple jump with a leap of 14.70 meters, over a full meter farther than the next man. Igbinoghene also placed second in the long jump with a final mark of 6.8 meters and sixth in the 60-meter dash.
Senior Jaison Williams did his part in the shot put. His throw of 15.39 meters came up just short of Spain Park’s Damon Wright, who went for 15.78 meters.
Distance runners Ben Knox and John Ngaruiya also brought home second-place finishes. Knox stopped the time at 9:50.37 in the 3,200-meter run. He missed Vestavia Hills’ Alec Beers by less than six seconds.
Ngaruiya finished behind Mountain Brook’s Drew Williams in the 1,600-meter run.
Andy Chappell represented Hewitt-Trussville in the pole vault event, going 3.96 meters for a fourth-place result.
Also bringing in points for the Huskies was Jonathan Mann. He climbed 1.82 meters to claim seventh place in the high jump competition.
Senior Marlee Mason headlined the girls team with a quick finish in the 1,600-meter run. Mason took fifth place after stopping the clock at 5:30.21.
The Hewitt-Trussville girls later placed sixth in the 4×200-meter relay. They finished behind No. 1 Clinton, No. 2 Homewood, No. 3 Hoover, No. 4 James Clemens and No. 5 Oak Mountain.
