The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred in a church parking lot on Friday night, leaving a 16-year-old male hospitalized with what authorities believe may be life threatening injuries.
Deputies answered a call of shots fired in the 1100 block of Pratt Highway near Forestdale. At about 6:30 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of Sandusky Church of Christ on Pratt Highway.
They arrived to find a sixteen year old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to the hospital with what is believed to be a life threatening injury, according to a statement released by the sheriff’s office.
Early information at the scene indicates that several teens had gathered in the parking lot to fight. Once the fight ended an adult got out of a car with a handgun and shot the victim.
The suspect then fled the scene in a white car of unknown make and model.
The investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided as they become available.
