JEFFERSON COUNTY – A man is in custody after a 16-year-old was shot in a church parking lot on Friday night.
Around 6:30 Friday evening Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the parking lot of Sandusky Church of
Christ on Pratt Highway.
They arrived to find a 16-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The
victim was transported to the hospital with what was believed to be a life-threatening injury.
Information at the scene was that several teens were gathered in the parking lot to fight. Once the fight ended, an adult
got out of a car with a handgun and shot the victim. The suspect then fled the scene in a white car of unknown make
and model.
Detectives were able to identify the suspect as a 22-year-old man from Fairfield.
On Saturday, the
suspect contacted detectives and told them he wanted to come talk to them. He met with detectives and was
questioned.
Based on the investigation the man was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County jail. His name is withheld pending
formal charges.
The victim remains hospitalized with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.
