PINSON — The sidewalk project at Innsbrooke, near the Pinson Valley High School, has been completed and the Pinson City Council accepted ownership Thursday. The project was funded by the Alabama Department of Transportation’s ‘Safe Routes to School’ grant, but ownership, and maintenance of the sidewalk had to be transferred to the city.
The project was 100 percent grant funded, according to Mayor Hoyt Sanders.
“ALDOT or their contractor install those (Projects) and toss us the proverbial keys,” Sanders said.
The sidewalk project dovetailed nicely with the beautification efforts being made by city officials in that area. The council also voted unanimously to install $26,111 in landscaping and an additional $6,078 in irrigation adjacent to the sidewalk at the entrance to Innsbrooke.
The council will maintain the landscaping for two years, after which time the upkeep will go to the Innsbrooke neighborhood association.
