CENTER POINT –On Friday morning, Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, identified Raheem Jonas Tyreze Stubbs, 22, of Center Point as the man shot after a homeowner allegedly found he and two others had broken into his home where his 8-year-old son was alone.
Stubbs was a neighbor who lived also on Springlake Court, Yates said.
Earlier Thursday, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported that just after 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence in the 1900 block of Springlake Court just off of Old Springville Road near Center Point.
Thursday evening, JCSO released additional information stating that an 8-year-old boy had just arrived home alone. He called his father, who was only minutes away, and told him that three men were knocking on the door. His father told him to hide under the bed.
When the father arrived, he entered the home and found that the three men had allegedly broken into the home. He confronted them and fired shots from a handgun, hitting at least one suspect who later died at the hospital.
While deputies responded, it was reported that a suspect had been shot by the homeowner.
Authorities arrived to find an adult male on the floor suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.
Deputies were searching for the remaining two suspects who fled on foot and dogs had been brought in to assist with the search.
The investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided as they become available.
