PINSON – A Pinson Valley High School student has been awarded the Future Skilled Workers of America Student of the Month.
Go Build Alabama – an initiative of the Alabama Construction Recruitment Institute – named Dw’Juane Chaverst as its January award winner. Chaverst is a senior at Pinson Valley.
“Dw’Juane is a star student in the Industrial Maintenance program, and a leader amongst his peers,” said Lensey King, Industrial Maintenance Instructor at Pinson Valley. “Over the past semester I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing his drive and dedication as he’s pushed the envelope on himself in a constant effort to succeed.”
Chaverst stays busy practicing his craft outside the classroom, with extra curricular activities that include welding, carpentry and mechanical work.
“Working with my hands comes natural to me,” said Chaverst. “I’ve always enjoyed designing and building things at home and at work, and it’s exciting to know that there are rewarding careers for people like me who choose to master a skilled trade.”
The F.S.W.A. Student of the Month is an honor bestowed upon one high school junior or senior by the Alabama Construction Recruitment Institute every month during the school year. It was created to encourage students to consider pursuing careers in the construction industry.
Chaverst is now eligible to receive a $1,000 scholarship to a higher education training center in Alabama.
Teachers, principals and other school personnel are encouraged to nominate students for the Go Build Alabama Future Skilled Workers of America Award. To be eligible, students must be high school juniors or seniors with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in construction. Visit www.GoBuildAlabama.com to download a nomination form.
