From Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE –With the FOX television special GREASE: LIVE set to air Sunday night a 6 p.m., one of Trussville’s favorite sons, Jordan Fisher, will be front and center in the ensemble cast as Doody.
According to the show’s website, Fisher began his acting career by training and performing at Red Mountain Theatre Company in Birmingham. But an earlier introduction to the stage was at Paine Intermediate School in Trussville.
“I was his fifth grade drama teacher and cast him in his first show, School House Rock, Jr.,” Don Garrett said. “He blew the roof off with Conjuction Junction. It was then I realized he needed more than I could give him, so I hooked him up with Red Mountain Theatre Company’s youth program where he was spotted by a talent scout which led to his contract with Disney!”
He got his professional start with a guest-starring role on the cable series “iCarly,” and then booked his first major role on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” as “Jacob.”
In 2013, he was able to merge his love for acting, singing, and dancing as “Seacat” in the original cable film “Teen Beach Movie” and reprises his role in the sequel “Teen Beach 2” (2015). Other television credits include “The Thundermans” and “Teen Wolf.” He currently can be seen on “Liv and Maddie,” and he recently was cast as a lead in the cable pilot “Stay.”

Fisher has recorded three singles. Last year, he signed with Hollywood Records. His debut album is scheduled for release this spring.
The one-night live musical production is set in Rydell High and brings the wildly popular story of 50’s era high school students to the television screen.
In addition to Fisher as “Doody,” GREASE: LIVE stars Julianne Hough (“Safe Haven,” “Rock of Ages”) as the angelic “Sandy” – Rydell High’s most talked-about newcomer – and Aaron Tveit (“Graceland,” “Les Miserables”) as bad boy “Danny Zuko.”
Also tapped to star are Vanessa Hudgens (Broadway’s “Gigi,” “Spring Breakers”) as iconic bad girl “Rizzo,” Keke Palmer (SCREAM QUEENS, “Masters of Sex”) as the sassy Pink Lady “Marty Maraschino” and Carlos PenaVega (“Big Time Rush”) as “Kenickie,” Danny’s tough-guy sidekick, according to the FOX website.
Featuring a young ensemble cast, GREASE: LIVE will reintroduce and reimagine some of the show’s most memorable moments, great music and timeless love story to an entirely new generation.
In this live television adaptation of the musical classic, the beginning of senior year means the end of Danny and Sandy’s summer romance – until Sandy unexpectedly transfers to Danny’s high school.
Can Danny maintain his bad-boy image as the coolest member of the T-Birds, once he and Sandy start going together, and can Sandy remain a good girl after she joins the Pink Ladies? With their friends Rizzo and Kenickie pulling them in different directions, it’s up to Danny and Sandy to stay hopelessly devoted as they make their way from Rydell High to a new frontier.
