As of Tuesday evening, there are 21 student-athletes from Hewitt-Trussville, Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley scheduled to sign college scholarships on National Signing Day.
The first Wednesday of February has become an unofficial holiday in the sports world, as athletes from across the country ink their name down to the college of choice.
This Wednesday will be particularly busy at Clay-Chalkville High School where 12 of the Cougars’ best will make their college decisions. Eight of those signees will represent head coach Jerry Hood’s football program. Clay-Chalkville’s soon-to-be signees include: Kardasia Hitchcock, Stony Brook University (volleyball), Thomas Johns, UAB (baseball), Madison Cole, West Point Military Academy (Softball), Jaycy Nail, Faulkner State Community College (golf), T.J. Simmons, Alabama (football), Cole Garrison, Appalachian State (football), A.J. Walker, Tulane (football), Brandon Berry, Reinhardt University (football), Cole Baker, Delta State University (football), Armoni Holloway, Alabama A&M (football) and Amari Holloway, Alabama A&M (football).
The only Cougar that hasn’t made a verbal commitment is quarterback Ty Pigrome. The Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year is expected to choose between Virginia Tech, Tulane, Penn State, New Mexico and Maryland among others.
For Hewitt-Trussville, Megan McGettigan will sign a soccer scholarship with West Alabama. She will join the following football signees: Zac Thomas (Appalachian State), Bailey McElwain (Stanford), Jalen Williams (Columbia University), Jaison Williams (Austin Peay University), Kyle Miskelley (Minot State University) and Jarrion Street (Ole Miss).
For Pinson Valley, defensive backs Jay Woods and Trey Minnifield will both sign football scholarships. Woods is expected to ink with South Alabama while Minnifield chooses Southern Nazarine in Oklahoma.
