HOOVER –A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted 16-year-old Charleston Wells in the murder of 33-year-old Mike Gilotti of Hoover.
Gilotti was gunned down in the front yard of his Lake Cyrus home in Hoover as he left at 5 a.m. to go to the gym for an early morning workout. Police believe Wells and others were breaking into vehicles in the neighborhood when Gilotti came outside and was shot.
According to WBRC, the indictment said Wells, “did on or about January 5, 2016, intentionally cause the death of another person, Jonathan Michael Gilotti, by shooting him with a firearm, or did aid or abet in said act.”
An affidavit said Wells fingerprints were found on the vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects during the car break-ins and on recovered items that had been stolen.
Hoover investigators, along with several partner agencies have worked non-stop since this senseless crime occurred, a release from the department stated.
Possible suspect names emerged very early into this investigation and it became apparent that all of them had ties to the Bessemer area, police said.
Authorities said, investigators also learned very early that these suspects were the same individuals who broke into numerous cars and stole a truck in Tuscaloosa, just prior to coming to Hoover.
Law enforcement agencies throughout the Birmingham area have also recovered four stolen vehicles in the past 10 days, all affiliated with these suspects.
Wells is still in jail, being held without bond.
