BIRMINGHAM — Three people are in custody following a robbery gone bad, thanks to quick action by the victim, and quick response from police.
Just before 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 18, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 600 block of Tomahawk Circle in Forestdale to investigate a report of a person holding another at gunpoint.
Upon arrival on scene, deputies learned that the homeowner had heard voices outside. He went to check and discovered a man and a woman using bolt cutters to remove a lock from his storage shed.
After retrieving a handgun from his car, the homeowner confronted the suspects. The two suspects ran to a waiting car that was driven by a second female suspect. In her effort to drive away quickly, she backed over a retaining wall and the car became stuck in a ditch. Both female suspects fled on foot, while the male suspect was held at gunpoint by the victim until deputies arrived. A short time later, the two females were captured near the scene.
All three suspects were arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail. Friday afternoon detectives obtained warrants formally charging the trio with attempted burglary, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.
Quoizell Edwards, 35, of Birmingham was charged with Possession of Burglary Tools, Failure to Possess Felon ID Card, and Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $23,000.
