TRUSSVILLE — As the political playing field continues to increase heading into the 2016 elections, another local businessman has thrown his hat into the ring.
Trussville optometrist Dr. Zack Steele has his eye on a city council seat in the community where he has called home since 2003.

Steele holds a bachelor of science degree from Auburn where he finished in 1998, and later received his doctor of optometry degree from UAB in 2003.
Currently Steele serves on the Parks and Recreation Board, and as the Legislative director for the Alabama Optometric Association He is owner of Trussville Vision Care, one of Trussville’s oldest eye care practices, and in 2010 was named Alabama’s Young Optometrist of the Year.
Married to Dr. Beth Steele, Associate Dean of the UAB School of Optometry, the Steele’s have two children, Janie, a third-grader at Paine Intermediate, and Bryant who attends kindergarten at Paine.
“I never in a million years thought I would want to get into a political race,” said Steele. “But I see an opportunity to help our community move ahead. We have a chance to make Trussville one of the most desirable places to live in the entire state of Alabama, but we need new leaders who are willing to make that happen.”
Steele says that downtown redevelopment is a must, as well as making the school system one of the best in the state academically.
“Education should be a top priority. We need to be spending our education money wisely to ensure the best possible future for our children.
Steele has worked with the Trussville Chamber of Commerce serving on the board of directors, and has been a volunteer soccer, baseball and basketball coach as well.
Known to be a straight shooter, Steele says people will never have to wonder where he stands on issues.
“People that know me know I speak my mind and that I stand up for what I believe in,” Steele said. “I will not be a councilman who panders or checks to see which way the wind blows. I promise I will always tell you the truth and I will work tirelessly to make Trussville one of the greatest places to live in the entire state.”
