BIRMINGHAM –Three women were stabbed and two of the victims were critically injured, early Friday morning in Birmingham.
According to Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards, officers responded to a call around 3 a.m. to the 1200 block of 4th Place North on several people stabbed.

Apparently, an ex-boyfriend came to the residence and began a verbal altercation with his ex-girlfriend. The verbal altercation immediately turned violent when the suspect attacked the victim with a knife. The victim was stabbed multiple times to the body.
A second female victim attempted to help the first victim and was also attacked by the suspect. This victim received several stab wounds to the body. She managed to fight the suspect off and get away.
Later, the suspect entered a bedroom where a third victim was located and immediately attacked her. The third victim managed to fight the suspect off but suffered multiple stab wounds to the body.
The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
All three victims were transported to UAB with injuries. After speaking with the detectives around 10 a.m. Friday morning, all three females had been released from the hospital. Their injuries were not life threatening.
“The suspect, Billy Joe Jefferson, 45, is no stranger to the law,” reported Edwards.
