The spring season of Trussville Lacrosse begins play this weekend.
The Trussville high school girls open with Spain Park on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Trussville Sports Complex football field.
The boys high school team faces off against Prattville on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the same site.
Admission is free.
Trussville is part of the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association and competes with other schools across the state for a state championship.
Both teams had successful seasons last year, both making the playoffs.
The girls return starters Sarah Burden, UAH signee LeeAnn Guess, Kurre Wood, Lizzy and Katie Witte, and freshman Lilly McCormick. After going 0-12 the first year, then 6-4 last season, the girls are looking for an even-better season. Tom McCormick, Barry Sides and Rob Hicks coach them.
The boys have nine starters back from a year ago. Carter McAlpin, Ben Wedlund, Mitchel Peterson, Trevor McBride, JB Curlee, Dustin McNaughton and Alex Tran all return with hopes of a deep state tournament run culminating in a championship. They are coached by Kris Knisley, Jamey Curlee, Aaron Naftziger and Sam Partridge.
