TRUSSVILLE –David R. “Dave” Blount announces his candidacy for Trussville City Council, Place 5. The 47-year-old Trussville attorney believes education, sustainable economic growth, and quality parks and recreational resources should be top priorities during the upcoming administration.
A resident of Trussville for eight years, Blount has served the last five years on the Trussville Youth Football League’s Board of Directors, including two years as president. He was instrumental in forming the new Husky Baseball Club and currently serves as Trussville’s community representative for OTM Basketball. Blount and wife Amy have three children and are members of First Baptist Church Trussville, where he serves on the Children’s Worship team.
“For me, serving our city is really about investing in our future as a community,” said Blount. “To do that, we have to focus on how everything is connected, from education to parks to economics and business, from taxes to city services and public safety. It’s all intertwined into a package that has to remain attractive in order to maintain our viability, so the efforts of our city leaders must be geared toward continuous improvement in all of those areas.”
In 2015, Blount and fellow Trussville resident Scott Hughes formed Blount Hughes, LLC, a general practice law firm. He considers Trussville not only the ideal place to do business but to raise his family as well.
“Amy and I looked at several other Birmingham suburbs before moving here, but none of those places could compare to Trussville,” he said. “While the school system was a big draw, we were blown away by the sense of community here. Trussville has been good to us, and serving on the city council would be my way of giving back.”
The Place 5 seat is being vacated by mayoral candidate Anthony Montalto. The election will be held August 23.
