HOMEWOOD –According to a police alert and Jefferson County jail records, Ralph Newton Black, 57, of Birmingham is charged with allegedly attempting to abduct a woman at knife point from the Publix parking lot in Homewood.
The victim reported that a unknown male subject approached and held her at knife point, police said, and he tried to get her to get in his vehicle.
The report stated that the victim did not comply and was unharmed.
Information gathered through an investigation led investigators to the identification of one suspect. The suspect was arrested and three warrants were issued for attempted kidnapping, solicitation for rape and solicitation for sodomy
The defendant was transported to the Jefferson County jail on Friday where is being held. Bond was set at $450,000.
“This appears to be an isolated incident,” the police statement read. “However, citizens still need to be aware of their surroundings at all times.”
