From Staff Reports
Jefferson State Community College will hold the Second Annual Judy M. Merritt 5K Run, One-Mile Fun Run / Walk, and Virtual 5K for the community on Saturday, March 19, at the Shelby-Hoover Campus and Veterans Park.
“This event has options for everyone,” said Jefferson State’s Race Director James Buxton. “We have the 5K for runners, the One-Mile Fun Run and Walk for beginners, and the Virtual 5K for those who want to sleep in and still receive the t-shirt.”
The event will honor the tremendous legacy of long-time President Judy Merritt and will help students by raising money for the Judy M. Merritt Scholarship Fund.
The 5K run will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Veterans Park at the intersection of Valleydale Road and Jaguar Drive across from the Judy M. Merritt Health Sciences Building. The One-Mile Fun Run/Walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. The Virtual 5K is for anyone who does not want to run, but would like to support the event.
Awards will be given to the top three male & female overall winners, with other awards for the top age group winners. Special awards will be given to current Jefferson State students and to staff/faculty members.
