From Staff Reports
In 2014, the State Superintendent of Education developed a program to grant high school diplomas to qualifying World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans.
The initiative was part of legislation enacted by the Alabama House and Senate to provide a way for those veterans who left high school to serve in the military a chance to receive their diploma.
Trussville City Schools intends to recognize these veterans who served honorably. Any recipient may choose to have the diploma presented at the high school’s graduation ceremony, at private ceremony or have the diploma mailed.
The diploma is intended to be presented by the high school at which the veteran attended. For a veteran to qualify for the diploma, they must have been a student who left school before completing graduation to join the military during World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War.
Veterans must also provide appropriate military discharge documentation that indicates an honorable discharge. If the veteran was killed in action, the family must supply verification of death. For more information, click here
The district’s student support coordinator, Mrs. Mandi Logan, will be the point of contact for any veteran who qualifies. Mrs. Logan can be reached at mandi.logan@trussvillecityschools.com, or at 205-228-3033.
