PINSON — Pinson Valley and Clay-Chalkville squared off as area baseball play opened last week, and the Indians jumped into the driver’s seat by winning 5-1 Friday and 6-3 Saturday to take a 2-0 lead in Class 6A, Area 12.
The Cougars bounced back to win the second game of the doubleheader Saturday 6-4, but that game does not count in area play.
Pinson Valley is now 12-11 overall heading into Spring Break play at the Gulf Coast Classic at Orange Beach.
Clay-Chalkville, after an 8-1 start, has slipped to 10-8. The Cougars hope to put it back together as they play in the Mountain Brook Sports Corporation Tournament at Mountain Brook High
School on Thursday. They are scheduled to face Briarwood Christian at 3 p.m.
The scheduled softball game between the two rivals was rained out and rescheduled for Wednesday, April 6. PVHS went on to go 2-2 in the Corner tournament to improve to 12-9. They got great pitching, allowing just four runs in the four games. They will jump back into area play Tuesday, April 5, at Shades Valley.
Clay’s softball team has struggled to a 4-12 start, but one of those wins was an 18-7 blowout of area for Shades Valley, so the Lady Cougars are sitting 1-0 in area play. They swing back into action Tuesday, April 5, at Pelham.
