BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham Police Department Detectives have opened a homicide investigation after an incident on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the 1000 block of Mesa Drive around 3:10 p.m. Officers responded to reports of a person stabbed at the location, and upon arrival found the victim’s daughter, who stated she had found her mother, Cassandra Hatter, 40 of Birmingham, in bed, deceased from multiple stab wounds.
Preliminary investigations indicate the victim’s boyfriend was the last person seen with Hatter. Hatter’s daughter said she got up in the morning and called her mother several times, receiving no response. The daughter also noticed her mother’s car was gone, and decided to go in search of a relative.
The daughter came back home do find her mother in the bedroom. Officers from the Birmingham Crime Reduction team were able to locate Hatter’s car and detain her boyfriend.
