On May 11-14, 2016, Chief Richard Gasaway will deliver a series of one day seminars to emergency response personnel regarding how individuals, teams, and organizations develop and maintain situational awareness and make decisions in high stress, high consequence, and time-compressed environments. The series will begin on May 11 in Orange Beach, Alabama and will culminate on May 14 in Decatur, Alabama. The delivery on the 14 in Decatur will be directed at the first responder to assist with identification of barriers to situational awareness, facing the first responder while operating in dynamically changing environments.
A seminar will be held at the Trussville Civic Center on May 12.
Rich Gasaway served 33 years on the front line as a firefighter, EMT-Paramedic and fire chief, earning a Ph.D. while studying how individuals, teams and organizations develop and maintain situational awareness and make decisions in high-stress, high-consequence, time-compressed environments. He is widely considered to be one of the nation’s leading authorities on first responder situational awareness and decision-making. He has authored 5 books and his contributions have been featured and referenced in more than 350 publications. A prolific speaker, Dr. Gasaway has earned the National Speakers Association’s highest designation, Certified Speaking Professional. His leadership and safety programs have been presented to more than 41,000 first responders worldwide.
Alabama Fire College, located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama will be partnering with CAFCA, City of Decatur, AFA, and Columbia Southern. The Fire College provides training and certification for new and experienced firefighters and emergency medical personnel, as well as specialized training for law enforcement, emergency management and military responders. Last year the Fire College trained over 26,000 students in all sixty-seven Alabama counties, forty-nine other states, and several foreign countries.
