HAYDEN — A single-vehicle crash on Thursday claimed the life of a 3-year-old child.

The child was crossing Elvester Road around 4:30 p.m., two miles south of Hayden, when he was struck by a 1991 Dodge Dakota pickup truck.
The child was transported to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Dodge was not injured, and remained on the scene.
Alabama State Troopers are continuing to investigate.
