TRUSSVILLE — Neighbors in Pilgrims Rest subdivision are putting on a yard sale for Eddie Paliescheskey on May 21 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Neighbors are collecting items from inside their own homes to contribute to the sale, and all proceeds will go directly to Eddie, age 58, who had a brain stem
stroke on January 8, 2015. Since then Eddie’s brother, Joe, sold his home in the subdivision to move in with Eddie and their mother to provide him with around the clock care.
Eddie is paralyzed form the neck down, and can only communicate via yes or no questions, or with his eyes.
According to Joe, Eddie is what professionals call “locked in,” however, he’s already beaten the odds, as less than 10 percent of people that have this type of stroke live more than a year following.
Family and friends have formed a group called Eddie’s Army to offer support to the family, and the group now boasts near 1000 members. The group supports the family’s cause through assistance with care, visits, food and financial support, as healthcare costs for Eddie are ever climbing.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to the yard sale can contact Nickie at nickie2001@charter.net. The family is also continuously raising funds through a Go Fund Me account.
