ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has sent a letter expressing gratitude to Birmingham Mayor William Bell and others for their support following the Orlando nightclub shooting. Read the letter below:
Dear Mayors, Though the words thank you seem woefully inadequate, I want to express my gratitude to the |
community that makes up the U.S. Conference of Mayors for the outpouring of support I have received from you for the people of Orlando. From all over the country your personal words of kindness and support, offers of assistance, lighting of City buildings, vigils and the many other public gestures have served to hearten, sustain and strengthen us. Thank you. This past Sunday was the most horrific day in the history of the City of Orlando. And yet, I have never been more proud of our community because of the way they have come together, united with a singular focus of supporting the families and friends of the victims. The heroic acts of our Orlando Police Department as well as other law enforcement, and the actions of our citizens no doubt saved lives throughout that night. The medical personnel in our City were tireless as they worked to save the lives of those transported to their hospital. They are heroes.
I cannot overstate the gratitude I have for the dedication of our City employees. Through long hours, they have helped in every way possible to lead our City through this weekend’s events. We will be a better City because of this. We will not be defined by the act of a cowardly hater. We will be defined by how we respond, how we treat each other. |
Sincerely,
Buddy Dyer
Mayor
