TRUSSVILLE — It was an quite a week for the Trussville U6 all-star teams as both the Trussville National and Trussville American teams breezed through their respective tournaments undefeated.
The Trussville National team defeated Mountain Brook 13-12 in the championship game of the Greater Birmingham Baseball Association tournament thanks in part to a walk off hit from Walker Smith that scored Cole Smith all the way from first base.
In the final inning, stellar defense from Devan Kiser, and John Yeskevicz held Mountain Brook scoreless to set the stage for late inning drama.
“It was 10 guys who played their guts,” said Coach Blake Moseley. “They made routine plays and hit the cover off the ball. It was just a complete team effort.”
The Trussville National Team members are Devan Kiser, John Yeskevicz, Preston Moseley, Jackson Zeitvogel, Clark Durden, Walker Smith, Cole Smith, Brayden Cox, Stetson Risley, and Saywer Jackson.
The Trussville American team didn’t need late inning drama in their championship game against Vestavia Hills. The U6 Americans retired Vestavia in order in the top of the first inning thanks to fantastic defensive plays by shortstop Dylan Price and second basemen Ford Rotenberry. The Huskies then put up 8 runs in their half of the first inning, capped off by a three run home run by Bryant Steele.
By the end of the third inning, the Trussville Americans built a comfortable 17-3 lead. Vestavia rallied in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 17-9, but the Huskies got 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game by the 11 run mercy rule. A shot from Alex Payne drove in Palmer Hull to close out the game.
“It was a pleasure to get to know these kids over the last couple of months, said Head Coach Chris Renda. They worked incredibly hard and got better every week.”
The Trussville American team members are Brice Bichler, Dylan Price, Mason Renda, Masen Melvin, Carson Williams, Ford Rotenberry, Braylon Townes, Bryant Steele, Palmer Hull, Alex Payne, and Cayden Allred.
