JEFFERSON COUNTY –A deputy from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was shot in the leg during the process of serving a drug search warrant in southwest Birmingham on Thursday. The suspects then barricaded themselves in the building where the shooting occurred.
UPDATED: Suspect at-large
The incident took place in the 2900 block of Dowell Avenue Southwest around 6 p.m. Thursday. Deputies and Birmingham police officers swarmed the area.
The deputy’s injury is not believed to be life-threatening and he has been transported to UAB Hospital, according to Chief Deputy Randy Christian.
Officers went into to the structure and took two suspects out by force. At least one suspect was shot in the shoulder. He has alos been taken to UAB with non-life threatening wounds.
Officers are still on the scene working to clear the residence now.
Officials have not released the name of the deputies or the suspects.
