BIRMINGHAM — UPDATE: Upon further investigation, it has been determined that the stabbing incident on May 6 stemmed from a domestic situation between the victim, the victim’s wife and their two daughters. The daughters arrived at the below location to find the victim with a knife in his hand, and attempted to restrain him. The original story was made up by the victim in order to protect his daughters.
The case was presented to the district attorney, who recommended no charges against the daughter.
ORIGINAL: The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred on May 6 in the 1500 block of Graymont Avenue.
Eddie Townsend, 69 of Birmingham, was stabbed around 2:15 p.m. Officers responded to find him lying on the porch suffering from a stab wound to the body.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, transporting the victim to UAB Hospital. On June 3, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Detectives found the victim was in his front yard doing yard work when three black males approached him, demanding money. The suspect attempted to go into the victim’s poked, upon which he was stabbed.
All three suspects fled the scene on foot.
“Our goal in this case is to locate and arrest everyone involved,” said Lt. Sean Edwards. “So we definitely need the community’s help with this one.”
