RANDOLPH COUNTY –UPDATE- The stand-off with law enforcement that left a deputy wounded is over. The suspect is dead and the hostage, believed to be the suspect’s wife, is unharmed, according to Deputy Larry Clarke.
Chuck Daniel of ALEA said the suspect dies of a self-inflicted gunshot.
REPORTED EARLIER – A Randolph County sheriff’s deputy was shot during a domestic violence call, according to the sheriff’s department.
The deputy has been transported to UAB Hospital. Law enforcement officers from Roanoke, Lineville, Heflin, Oxford, Cleburne, Chambers, Clay, Calhoun and the Alabama State Troopers arrived on the scene at a house on County Road 7 in Randolph County to assist with the situation.
According to ALEA, the incident began at 12 p.m. in Swagg on Saturday as a domestic issue. Officers believe, the suspect set fire to son’s house, yard and car and killed the son’s dog.
When the Randolph County deputy arrived, the suspect was in camper with guns holding his wife hostage. While in a stand-off with law enforcement, the suspect shot the deputy, who is expected to recover.
The man was allegedly armed with a 9 mm handgun and a rifle.
