MONTGOMERY — At its monthly Alabama State Board of Education meeting on Friday, the BOE selected six finalists to interview for the post of Alabama’s next State Superintendent of Education. The job became available when Dr. Tommy Bice submitted his resignation in March of this year. Bice, 61, and Dr. Craig Pouncey were to two finalists when the job last came open.
Pouncey, hired in 2014 after 11 years with the state department of education, just completed his second year as the JEFCOED chief.
The finalists are, in alphabetical order:
Dr. Williamson Evers, Research Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University
Dr. Dee Fowler, Superintendent, Madison City Schools
Dr. Craig Pouncey, Superintendent, Jefferson County Schools
Ms. Jeana Ross, Secretary, Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education
Mr. Michael Sentance, Consultant, Education Policy and Improvement
Dr. Janet Womack, Superintendent, Florence City Schools
The State Board of Education will interview the finalists on August 4, 2016. The Board will vote to select the new Superintendent at its August 11, 2016, Board Meeting.
