TRUSSVILLE – The United Methodist Women of Trussville First UMC will be hosting a back to school supply drive on August 20.
School supplies collected will benefit children in the Trussville community, as well as the Lovelady Center’s Freedom Rain School.
Drive By and Drop Off will take place from 9 a.m.-noon in the front parking lot at Trussville First UMC. Items needed include notebooks, pencils, pens, scissors, glue, crayons, markers, colored pencils, rulers, small pencil sharpeners, folders, binders and Kleenex tissues. All you have to do is drive up, roll down your window and hand your items to a volunteer.
The children at Lovelady’s Freedom Rain Academy often come in grade levels behind academically and with emotional and cognitive needs that exceed the average students. Birmingham Schools tend to lack the resources needed to help them, and private schools require full-time enrollment, which may not be conducive to these students.
However, students drop in at the Lovelady School daily, no commitment necessary. Students are in a Christ-centered learning environment, with small student to teacher ratios to give an opportunity for therapeutic intervention. This year the school expects to serve more than 80 students.
