TRUSSVILLE – Former Hewitt-Trussville standout Casey Dunn was selected to the Ohio Valley Conference’s preseason football first team this week.
Dunn, the 6-foot-3, 285-pound Jacksonville State center, was a first-team pick in his junior season as he led one of the top offensive lines in league history. The Jax State line paved the way for a school-record 7,613 yards of total offense that also included school-bests in passing yards (3,102) and rushing yards (4,511).
He played alongside Clay-Chalkville graduate Adam Wright, who also earned All-OVC honors in his senior year of 2015.
Dunn played offensive line at Hewitt-Trussville under Hal Riddle and served as team captain in 2012 and was an all-metro pick. He helped lead the Huskies to the second round of the state playoffs in 2009.
The Gamecocks have won two straight OVC championships under two-time OVC Coach of the Year John Grass, and were picked to make it a threepeat by a vote of the league’s coaches and sports information directors. Quarterback Eli Jenkins and defensive lineman Darius Jackson were selected as the preseason offensive and defensive players of the year.
