SHELBY COUNTY – A crash at 11:50 p.m. on Sunday has claimed the life of a Chelsea woman.
Bernadette Shires, 39, was killed when the 2009 Lexus she was driving was struck by a CSX train. Shires was transported to Grandview Hospital, where she later died.
The crash occurred on Chelsea Road and County Road 39, just south of Chelsea limits. The crash damaged the crossing equipment, so the lights aren’t functional at this time. It is advised by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office that this area be avoided until the problem is fixed. In the mean time, drivers should use caution and use the “stop, look and listen” mentality when crossing the tracks. Drivers should also use caution because repairmen will be in the area.
State Troopers are contining to investigate.
