TUSCALOOSA – Clay-Chalkville closed out 7on7 play for the summer at Tuscaloosa on Saturday, going 5-2. The Cougars went 3-1 in pool play, earning a bye in the winners bracket.
Cougars coach Jerry Hood was enthusiastic about the way his Cougars played.
“The thing that most impressed me was the entire defense understanding the concepts so much better. And except for one bad game, (quarterback Willie) Miller played so well,” Hood said. Wide receiver Rodrick McCloud also picked up praise from Hood as the Cougars search for playmakers opposite Nico Collins.
The Cougars get a brief respite the rest of this week before statewide high school practice begins Monday, Aug. 1.
