BIRMINGHAM – Jefferson County Schools’ human resource director now faces federal charges of enticing a minor and receiving and possessing child pornography.
The announcement was made on Friday by U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance, FBI Special Agent in Charge Roger Stanton, Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steven D. Anderson and Hueytown Police Chief Chuck Hagler.
A federal grand jury returned a four-count indictment charging Brett William Kirkham, 40 of Tuscaloosa, with child enticement and receipt and possession of child pornography between 2008 and 2016. The indictment was made on Tuesday and unsealed on Thursday. Kirkham is scheduled for arraignment in federal court on August 11.
The maximum penalty for child enticement is life imprisonment and a fine of $250,000; the maximum penalty for each count of receiving and possessing child pornography is 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
An indictment only contains charges. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
