SPRINGVILLE –A crash on Interstate 59 sent a Springville police officer and another driver to the hospital Sunday evening, according to Trooper Gray Daniel of the Alabama State Trooper’s office.
Daniel said that Springville fire and police personnel were assisting with a car fire on I-59 northbound at the 155 mile marker at about 5:30 p.m. when a motorist crashed into the police vehicle.
The Springville officer was sitting in his vehicle behind a fire truck when his vehicle was struck from behind. He has been transported to UAB Hospital along with the other motorist.
Springville police corporal Kyle Howard said the officer was awake and alert, but in a lot of pain. The condition of the other motorist is not known at this time.
Following the wreck, a fire vehicle and two more vehicles became involved in the crash making a total of five vehicles involved.
