JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has opened an animal cruelty investigation after an alpaca was shot.
Just after 5:30 p.m. on Monday, deputies were called to a home in the 4100 block of Warrior-Jasper Road to investigate the report of an animal being shot. The owner reported he usually feeds his alpacas around 4 p.m. every day, but noticed one did not come to eat. Upon searching for the animal, he found it had been shot twice and killed.
The shooting likely happened sometime during the night on August 7, according to investigators.
