TRUSSVILLE — Members of the Trussville City Council made several reports at their meeting on August 25.
According to city councilman Buddy Choat, Trussville’s Downtown Redevelopment Authority has rescheduled their next meeting from September 1 to September 8 at Bryant Bank, due to the Labor Day holiday. He also announced that the city’s youth football league recently played in their “homecoming” game.
Councilman Perry Cook reported that Clay Road, in front of Hewitt-Trussville Middle School, has reopened after being under construction most of the summer. The city is also in the process of re-paving and clearing several roads. Cook also reported that the Industrial Development Board has passed consent for the city to drain and fill Beaver Pond in order to make it into usable land.
Councilman Alan Taylor stated that Trussville City Schools opened recently, and that Cahaba Elementary School’s first opening was successful.
“I was talking to one of our board members, and [opening schools] has really gone without a hitch,” said Taylor.
Mayor Gene Melton also expressed his gratitude for the city council’s decision approving an ordinance to allow the Alabama Dept. of Transportation to re-surface several streets in Trussville.
