From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
PHILADELPHIA, PA. –According to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross, Sergeant. Sylvia Young was ambushed at 11:20 p.m. Friday as she sat in her patrol car.
Young was shot eight times in her arm and protective vest, Ross said.
Also wounded was Ed Miller, an officer with the University of Pennsylvania police. Both officers were in stable condition early Saturday at Penn Presbyterian Hospital.
After shooting Young, the suspect fled through the streets of Philadelphia where he shot a security guard at a bar and a woman who he took hostage. The suspect then fired shots into a vehicle, striking a man and woman in the chest. Those victims are in critical condition at a local hospital.
The suspect was eventually chased into an alley by police officers, including Miller, where he was shot and killed.
The names of the wounded civilians and the suspect have not yet been released.
