TRUSSVILLE – The 10th annual Turn Trussville Pink will take place October 19.
Turn Trussville Pink is an opportunity for the community to show its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, by wearing pink attire, decorating doors, businesses, mailboxes and more with pink.
This will be the 10th year for Turn Trussville Pink, and ironically enough, it all started with tshirts. Turn Trussville pink began at HTHS and was formerly “Turn Hewitt Pink,” until a local family made it their vision to turn all of Trussville pink. Previously HTHS students were eligible to purchase tshirts to support the cause, and as community members became interested in the tshirts, the cause has expanded.
HTHS teacher Tracey Jackson is helping continue the event this year.
“High school students love tshirts, and it’s really evolved over the last five years or so,” Jackson said.
All proceeds raised during Turn Trussville Pink go to the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, and 100 percent of the donations made to the Cancer Center fund cancer research.
“Given Kathy White’s recent diagnosis and the family’s need to focus on her health, several individuals and groups are working to pick up various pieces of this annual event,” Jackson said.
Trussville residents interested in decorating with a pink bow can pick one up at the Three Earred Rabbit on October 18 between 6 and 8 p.m.
Other local businesses will also run “pink” specials, offering special pink products and donating a portion of the proceeds to the Cancer Center.
“Every street sign in Trussville city has a pink bow, most of the businesses will adorn their doors with pink bows, various student organizations will decorate schools, churches will decorate, people will make flat donations,” Jackson said.
There are also pink tshirts available for purchase, designed by Apparel FX.
