MONTGOMERY – The Alabama High School Athletics Association will honor Veterans at playoff games on Friday.
The AHSAA will salute Veterans during the second round of state football playoffs, and also prior to the AHSAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Special recognition will take place at each host school stadium, with special pre-game ceremonies prior to the National Anthem.
“Over the years and across this great nation thousands of individuals in the military forces have served and sacrificed so that we may live free,” AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese said. “We invite our schools to honor local veterans by any means approved by their administration.”
Savarese said we must never forget the sacrifices that veterans have made to defend our country and to protect our freedom.
“On behalf of the Alabama High School Athletic Association, we would like to take this opportunity to honor all veterans, but especially those administrators, teachers, coaches and officials who have served not only in their communities as servants for athletics, but have also served and been willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom,” Savarese said. “To those who have served and to those who are serving – past, present and future – and to the AHSAA member coaches, administrators, and officials who are veterans or in active duty, thank you and God bless you.”
The AHSAA has a video presentation online here, displaying photos of Veterans from among the AHSAA’s member school coaches, teachers, administrators and contest officials.
