BIRMINGHAM – Birmingham Police Officers responded to a person shot in the 600 block of 6th Street on Tuesday around 6:21 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a 77-year-old suspect sitting on the front porch of the location, and the suspect told officers he’d just shot his brother. The
victim of the shooting has been identified as Walter Millhouse, 73.
The suspect was detained and the officers entered the residence to find the victim, and found him lying in the back bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded and transported Millhouse to UAB Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect was reportedly intoxicated and couldn’t be questioned at the time. A witness from the scene was also interviewed.
Detectives discovered the victim and the suspect were arguing prior to the shooting. The witness said the victim went into the bedroom and sat down, and then the suspect entered the room with a shotgun, striking the victim.
“It is sad when brothers of such a mature age would resolve their conflict with this level of violence,” Lt. Sean Edwards said. Anyone with further information should contact the Birmingham Police Department Homicide Unit at 254-1764.
