CENTER POINT – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department believes they located the body of a man missing since November.
Deputies were called to a home in the 2100 block of 5th Way Circle in Center Point on Nov. 20 to investigate a missing person. The family of 59-year-old Michael Jones reported him missing, saying the last time he was seen was shortly after 3 a.m. on Nov. 19.
Jones’s family said he was prescribed regular medication that he didn’t take with him. He doesn’t drive, and was believed to have walked away from his residence, as it was common for him to walk away from his residence and not return for several hours.
Deputies searched the area and couldn’t find Jones. A missing senior alert was issued and K9 search teams aided in the continued search.
Thursday afternoon deputies returned to the area near Jones’s residence with a K9 search dog, and found a body believed to be Jones. The body was found in a wooded area not far from his home.
The medical examiner will positively identify Jones and determine the cause of death. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said foul play isn’t suspected at this time.
