BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Police Department has made an arrest in a Dec. 7 homicide.
Officers responded to the 3200 block of Avenue S just before 1 a.m. on the listed date to a person being sexual assaulted. Upon arrival, officers found the victim in the parking lot suffering from a wound to the body. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
The preliminary investigation indicated the victim was seen hanging outside of an abandoned apartment, and was observed walking away from the apartment before collapsing in the parking lot. A witness said an unknown black male came to his apartment door with a possible cut to one of his hands and asked for a towel, which the witness refused.
Residents living in the apartment complex said that people hang out in the vacant apartment to consume alcohol and drugs.
