BIRMINGHAM – A man was shot and crashed his car into a telephone pole on Tuesday morning.
The shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the 400 block of 4th Court West, about a block away from Legion Field.
Witnesses told the Birmingham Police Department that prior to the crash a black Chevrolet pickup truck pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle, and fired several rounds inside.
The victim drove another block before crashing into a telephone pole, subsequently knocking it over. The vehicle also flattened a fire hydrant and a stop sign, before it stopped at 4th Court West near 5th Street.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. Police said a motive hasn’t been established yet.
This marks the 101st homicide in Birmingham in 2016.
