TUSCALOOSA — The No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide held off No. 19 LSU for a 24-10 victory in Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday night.
A 4-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts to Irv Smith Jr. put Bama ahead 7-0 with 6:08 left in the opening quarter.
Bo Scarbrough made that lead 14-0 with a 9-yard touchdown run early in the second.
A 21-yard field goal by Connor Culp put LSU on the board with 8:38 left before halftime, with the 14-3 scoreline remaining at the break.
The majority of the third quarter went scoreless as the two teams battled it out. Hurts capped a Crimson Tide drive with a 3-yard touchdown run with 2:55 left in the quarter to put Alabama on top 21-3.
LSU scored its only touchdown of the night a minute later on a 2-yard run by Darrel Williams that cut Bama’s lead to 21-10.
A 40-yard field goal by Alabama kicker Andy Pappanastos with 13:25 left to play proved to be the final points of the contest.
The Crimson Tide improves to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in SEC play. Alabama will play at No. 16 Mississippi State next Saturday.= at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
LSU falls to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Tigers will host Arkansas next week.
