BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham police are investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl late Tuesday night.
The girl, identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as Miracle Sada McNeal, was shot in a residence in the 300 block of 12th Street Southwest.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in the 300 block of 12th Street Southwest.
Officers from the West Precinct responded to the location Tuesday night at 11:57 p.m. on a call involving a person being shot at the location, according to a release.
Officers found the victim lying in the doorway to her bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. It appeared that the victim heard the gunfire and got up out of her bed to flee the room when she was struck. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
Upon further investigation, officers found multiple shell casings in the alley behind the residence, and it appears that majority of the rounds struck the rear of the residence, which is where the victim’s bedroom was located.
A reason for the shooting is unclear at this time.
“The key to solving this homicide is to determine why this house was targeted,” said Lt. Sean Edwards.
