LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has called on Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore to step down from the race, the New York Times reports.
Moore has denied the allegations.
At first, McConnell said that, if the allegations were true, Moore should step down. But on Monday, he strengthened his stance, saying that he believes the women and calling for Moore to exit the race.
Moore is running against Democrat Doug Jones. McConnell said that a Republican write-in candidate is “an option that we’re looking at.”
Moore fired back on Twitter Monday morning, writing, “The person who should step aside is @SenateMajLdr Mitch McConnell. He has failed conservatives and must be replaced. #DrainTheSwamp”.
