From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has initiated safety awareness training to area churches due to shootings that have occurred in the United States over the past few years.
“In light of incidents we have seen in other areas of our country we want to insure we are as prepared as we can be here,” Sheriff Mike Hale told Carol Robinson. “My prayer is that the training is highly attended and effective but never ever needed.”
The safety training, that includes active shooter training, is being held at various churches around the county in order to reach as many in our faith community as possible, according to a release by the department.
The first training class was held Tuesday night at Enon Baptist Church in Morris.
A class will be held at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in early January.
The Sheriff’s Office training staff plans to add additional locations and dates moving forward. Any area church interested in this training should contact the Jefferson County Sheriffs Training Academy at 205-849-5246.
