From Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — Officers with Trussville Police Department were able to locate and apprehend a suspect in an alleged jewelry theft at Kay Jewelers at the Pinnacle Thursday, according to Detective Mike Bruce with TPD.
According to Detective Bruce, a suspect grabbed a ring at Kay Jewelers before running out of the store with the item late Thursday morning.
A worker at the store was able to give a vague description of the vehicle that the suspect left the shopping center in, and an officer with TPD spotted a vehicle matching that description a short time later.
The officer initiated a traffic stop on the on ramp to I-459 North off of Hwy. 11, and the vehicle pulled over.
Once the vehicle came to a stop the suspect, who was a passenger in the vehicle, attempted to elude police on foot.
“He jumped a cement wall and ran down the tracks,” Detective Bruce said. “We set up a perimeter and were able to apprehend the suspect.”
The suspect, a 36-year-old black male, was taken into custody and is currently at the Trussville City Jail. His identity if being withheld pending formal charges.
Officers were able to recover the ring, which is valued at approximately $4,000.
