BIRMINGHAM — Authorities with the Birmingham Police Department are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, according to the agency.
On Wednesday around 12:15 a.m., officers from the West Precinct responded to the 100 block of Avenue W. in Pratt City on a vehicle driving into a utility pole. Upon arrival, officers located a 70-year-old black male inside of the vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body.
Also, officers noticed the right side of the victim’s vehicle had multiple gunshot holes in it.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The victim appeared to be traveling west bound on Avenue W. when another vehicle pulled up next to his vehicle and began firing several rounds into it.
There were no witnesses on the scene, and the 911 call came in as a traffic accident. No motive has been established at this time.
